These beautiful parrots are between 29 to 33 inches from the top of their head to the tip of their tail and can weigh up to 3 pounds. With and a green forehead and 3 thin lines of black feathers running just under the eyes fading into the cobalt blue throat gives him a spectacular appearance, His top tail feathers and wings are eye-catching bright bluish green and his body, the underside of his tail and wings which can have a span of three feet is a brilliant shade of yellow gold.

Because of the size of this bird an aviary or a flight cage by is highly recommended as a means to provide exercise and help them stay as healthy as possible while living in captivity. Sunlight is also important for their feathers and overall health. If you live in a climate where there cage cannot be outside you can supplement that with a full-range of parrot lighting indoors. Visit here for recommended cages, play tops.

Your macaw will be spending most of their day in a cage so he needs something to stimulate his mind. Toys fill that void; they are a requirement to provide activities that are vital to help them stay physically and mentally healthy. These birds are so inquisitive and intelligent and without some kind of mental s substitutions they can become bored and begin to have behavioral problems.

They require toys that are mentally and physically challenging such as puzzle, foot, and food finding toys. You want to make sure they do not contain any metals such as zinc or lead which can be harmful to your parrot’s health. Visit here for recommended toys.

The Blue and Gold macaws diet as with most parrots eat a variety of foods such as seeds, pellets, nuts, grasses, flowers, fruits, vegetables and insects.

For nutritious fruits and vegetables in the same foods which make them even more appetizing and healthy visit recommended food and treats. These food products also encourage foraging behavior, which is important to the mental health of parrots.

Although the Blue and Gold Macaw are very interesting and beautiful birds to say the least, I recommend that you should research other species as well such as the African Grey or some of the other amazing Amazon parrots.
